About Preschool Index

Preschool Index is a free directory of licensed daycares, home daycares and preschools in the United States. It exists because the most useful facts about a child care program, its licence and its inspection history, are public and almost nobody reads them.

What it does

It puts the state's record next to what parents already look at: ages, hours, reviews and, where a program publishes it, tuition. It links every profile to the state file.

How it is funded

The directory is free for parents and free for programs to claim. It is funded by labelled sponsored placements. A sponsor cannot change its position in the list, its state record or what we write.

What it will not do

• Rank or label any program as safe or unsafe.
• Publish the street address of a home daycare.
• Sell or pass on a parent's details. The site has no enquiry form that collects them.
• Collect information about children.
